Waze Adds AI-Powered Features and Customization Updates to Transform Navigation

Google-owned Waze has announced a major update that brings artificial intelligence and deeper personalization to its navigation platform. The new features aim to make driving safer, more natural, and better suited to each user’s habits and preferences.

The update marks one of Waze’s biggest AI expansions in recent years as competition in the navigation space continues to grow.

Gemini AI Brings Natural Conversations to Waze

One of the biggest additions is the integration of Google’s Gemini AI technology into the Waze experience.

Drivers can now interact with Waze using natural language instead of relying on fixed commands or menus.

For example, users can say:

  • “Find the cheapest fuel station nearby.”
  • “Take me to a coffee shop on my route.”
  • “Find an EV charger before I reach my destination.”

New Motorcycle Mode for Riders

Waze has also introduced a dedicated Motorcycle Mode.

The feature uses AI to understand the unique needs of motorcycle riders and can recommend routes better suited for two-wheel vehicles.

The system can also provide alerts for:

  • Speed bumps
  • Potholes
  • Narrow roads
  • Raised crossings
  • Other road hazards

This feature is expected to roll out gradually across selected countries before expanding globally.

More Personalization and Customization

Alongside AI improvements, Waze is introducing new customization options.

Users can personalize navigation voices, adjust notification preferences, and reduce unnecessary interruptions while driving.

The new Less Chatty Mode reduces voice prompts during navigation, creating a quieter experience for users listening to music, podcasts, or phone calls.
